TMI Student Members - Improving Value from Membership: A View from your Student Reps

31st January 2017

Happy year of the Rooster!

Welcome back to what we hope to be a beneficial and productive new year. Thank you very much to everyone that answered our survey. If you are one of the 175 people who have yet to fill it out please do so as this would be greatly appreciated and really help us and you when it comes to the future of what you will gain from TMI.  It gives us the information needed to try and make a difference for you and for you to gain as much as possible from being student members of TMI.

We are in the process of analysing the responses that we have received and have spotted some recurring themes. Things that we would like to act on and things that we will also take forward to the board meeting in March. So you can see how important it is to have your say.

After analysing the results we will have a clearer view of which path to take forward and from the results so far we have created 3 possible goals that we want to achieve this year. These being:

  1. Student members to fully understand the role of TMI.
  2. Raise awareness of TM Eye.
  3. Improve the overall satisfaction level from being a member of TMI.

We’ve specifically chosen these goals to give ourselves some direction and something we hope is an achievable goal to work towards. The goals were selected based on the responses we’ve received from your feedback.

  1. 70% of the responses we got said they kind of, and not really, knew what TMI was and what they achieve.
  2. Raise awareness for TM Eye e-newsletter and increase the reader numbers. 81% of the responses said they had never heard of TM Eye .
  3. Improve the overall satisfaction level from being a member of TMI.

Other common themes that we will definitely be taking into consideration include: Student conventions, networking opportunities, the possibility of a student blog. Along with many more. We hope this would then improve the student membership of TMI.

We feel it’s important for you all to get to know us better as people, therefore we’ve both got three (potentially) interesting facts about ourselves:

Abi

  1. When I was younger I moved to South America, and I really didn’t want to go. But once I was there I loved it and didn’t want to come back to the UK.
  2. I’m Scottish through and through.
  3. At 16, I became a qualified fire fighter and was on call and attended up to 16 calls in a week.

Cassie

  1. I never actually wanted to go to university, yet here I am in my second year absolutely loving it!
  2. Since I was little I’ve always been a fussy eater, roast dinners were the enemy for me.
  3. Avid lover of tea, how British I know!

Of course if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email either of us at;
