TMI Student Reps Update
31st March 2017
Hello Student Members!
As promised, a follow up blog to tell you a little about our progress. At the beginning of March we attended our first TMI National Council meeting in London and while what is said at the meeting is strictly confidential we are able to give you a little insight into some of the matters discussed and what you will all be gaining from the information you gave us when you filled out our survey.
We had an opportunity to feedback your responses, leading to the sowing of the seeds for potential improvements for student members. The fact we’re able to voice our ideas starts the process going for what we students actually want to gain from our membership and how TMI can explore the various routes to engage with students on a level which we all benefit from.
What we found students wanted most was more industry involvement, whether that be networking among fellow students or industry experts, looking at the opportunities for work experience and placement opportunities. Things aren’t going to change overnight, but we hope to work towards various aspects to provide students with a more beneficial experience from their membership and generate knowledge and experience which can then work forward into your future careers. We voiced all this at the meeting and it has been noted.
This being said, the Hot Topic Event would be the ideal opportunity to begin networking and gain more industry involvement. This event is kindly being hosted by Sheffield Hallam University in May. The title for the event is ‘Innovation in Rural Tourism’ and has many key speakers. If you are interested in going to this event please follow this link to book your place.
Following up on our goals on our last blog post
1. There will be a blog post /newsletter article explaining the role of TMI to come in the near future.
2. If you are still not receiving TMEye please drop us an email and we will sort that out. (Note- If you have recently become a member it might take a month for you to get on the system).
3. If there is anything you think we can do to improve your overall satisfaction level within TMI please do get in touch with us.
Just to keep you all reading, here's another fun fact about each of us:
Cassie: My signature outfit is my bright yellow coat referred to as the ray of sunshine.
Abi: Yo hablo español.
Please feel free to get in touch with either of us if you have any questions or suggestions.
Good Luck in any exams coming up, placement search and have a fabulous Easter.
Thank you for reading!
Your student reps,
Abi and Cassie
