David Hughes Memorial Award Winners
28th May 2019
Part of the prize for the winners of TMI’s David Hughes Memorial Award is a complimentary delegate place at the Hot Topic. One of this year’s joint winners, Daymer Skye Eshelby from the University of Derby at Buxton, is pictured here receiving her certificate from TMI President, Jude Leitch at last week’s event. The other joint winner, Cassie Stewart from the University of Plymouth, was unable to attend the Hot Topic due to previous commitments.
The David Hughes Memorial Award is given annually to the final year student on a TMI Recognised course who submits the best report on their placement period. This year, there were two strong submissions and the TMI panel felt that although they approached their placement and report from different perspectives, each had equally strong points and so they decided to award jointly to both students: Cassie Stewart, University of Plymouth, and Daymer Skye Eshelby, University of Derby at Buxton.
The panel felt that Daymer's report on her placement at Cromford Mill showed her obvious enthusiasm and passion for heritage tourism; it identified a number of skills development areas she was able to work on and her personal development as a result of the placement. You can read Daymer’s short blog post about her placement here.
Cassie’s report demonstrated learning focussed on destination management, her experience of its varied roles and her progression through her placement, as well evident commitment to destination management. Our hearty congratulations to both students and best wishes for their future careers.
