New Director for TMI

The TMI is delighted to announce that we have appointed Dr Maeve Marmion as our new Director of CPD.

Maeve is Head of Department for the Experience Economy at the University of Chester.  She teaches across International Tourism and Events Management and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. 

Commenting on the appointment Dr Marmion said:

“I am really pleased to be joining the Board of the Tourism Management Institute as Head of Professional Development. I'm looking forward to supporting its goals and working with amazing people, member universities, destination professionals and not least its student members as they plan their future in tourism.”

We’re equally delighted to welcome to Joyce Cawthorpe who has been appointed CPD Co-ordinator, working alongside Maeve.

Joyce has a strong track record in UK tourism having worked for many years for VisitBritain before becoming a freelance consultant in 2009, and has worked directly with a number of TMI member destinations.

Joyce comments:

‘I am really excited to be joining TMI.  As a passionate champion of UK tourism I look forward to strengthening our partnership between universities, destinations and members at this time of rapid change’.


The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) is the professional organisation for anyone working in tourism destination management.

Just about every TMI activity is aimed at supporting the professional development of destination managers. 

Our two main events, the Hot Topic one day event in spring and the longer Annual Convention in the autumn, provide formal and informal opportunities for members and others in destination management to learn from experts and each other. 

Our links with Higher Education through the Course Recognition Scheme are equally important as a means of encouraging and supporting tomorrow's tourism destination managers at the start of their careers, and of building ever stronger networking between practice and research in tourism.
