Who ever said ‘change is the new norm’ certainly was not wrong. The pace of change these days can seem relentless, both within the tourism industry and in every other part of our lives. This is one reason why I have always enjoyed TMI events and why I am so looking forward to our next Hot Topic, this year at Westminster University. As always, there is a packed agenda, so it’s a chance to hear new ideas and consider suggestions from experts in the field of ‘Events and Experiences’, the day’s theme, as well experiencing the welcome in one of the top hotels in Europe, the Langham. For me though, the day is always invaluable in that I get to chat to my peers in Tourism Management, swap ideas and listen to their experiences. I also enjoy the opportunity to leave the pressure of the office behind for a few hours and take time out to consider topics that are often pushed too far down the ‘to do’ list.
We are currently living through what seems like a period of unprecedented uncertainty and trying to keep on top of the implications of our possible future paths can be exhausting. I have no doubt however that whatever the future throws at us, our destinations will continue to offer a warm welcome to people from across the country, Europe and the world. Many of the events and experiences we already offer are exciting and attract visitors from far and wide, but as always, we will continue to share best practice, learn from visitor research and constantly improve.
I am very much looking forward to seeing you in Westminster where I know you will find our yearly Hot Topic event stimulating and useful. If you are not yet a member of TMI I hope we can encourage you to join us as we continue to provide a strong voice for Destination Management across the UK.
