The winner of our 2023 TMI David Hughes Memorial Award  – Celine Djemai – shares with us how much she has valued winning the 2023 Prize!

Celine studied a BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and based her application on her research project  ‘Witch & Witchcraft Tourism in Scotland’

Celine said:

'Winning the David Hughes Memorial Award has been a pride and a concrete recognition of my efforts to contribute to tourism research and management. When you pursue something you are passionate about, the results can be truly rewarding. Winning this prize made me realise the importance of pushing boundaries and exploring unconventional topics within the field of tourism. I hope it raised awareness about the Scottish Witch Hunts. My aim is for tourism professionals to learn how to approach this subject with sensitivity and respect, ensuring that it is portrayed in the best possible light, honouring the memory of those who suffered unjustly. I strongly encourage undergraduate students to apply for the 2024 TMI David Hughes Memorial Award!
