The TMI Student Inspiration Award 2025 (Undergraduate)

Students on TMI Recognised Courses are invited  to apply for the TMI Tourism Student Inspiration Award 2025 formerly known as the David Hughes Memorial Award in memory of David Hughes, former TMI President).  This Award recognises outstanding student contributions to the tourism industry and is an opportunity for the student to showcase their work and gain important recognition both for themselves and their university and make an impact in the evolving world of travel and tourism.

We are delighted that our 2025 Student Awards have the support of Visitengland, the national tourist board for England.

 Course leaders are invited to submit applications from up to 2 students.  

The new format for 2025 is for students to prepare a 5 minute narrated PowerPoint video presentation based on a choice of topics.

The submissions are assessed by the TMI Professional Development Group along with VisitEngland and the winner will be announced early September.

The prize includes

  • A one to one professional mentor meeting, with an experienced destination practitioner;
  • A complimentary delegate place at the TMI Annual Convention - where they will hear the latest developments in destination management and be able to network with leading professionals in the sector;
  • If relevant, a small bursary will be available to cover reasonable UK travel costs to attend the event
  • One year’s FREE Associate membership of TMI, the voice of destination management;
  • Opportunity to write a blog piece about their placement for publication on the TMI website and associated platforms;
  • A certificate recognising their CPD engagement with regards to destination management;
  • Be the subject of a TMI Press Release to showcase their achievement and that of the University’s recognised course.

Simon Curtis Postgraduate Prize

TMI is the professional organisation for all involved in tourism destination management, from students at the start of their career through to senior destination managers at local, regional and national level.  We believe that a postgraduate degree can be a valuable staging post in a destination professional’s career; an opportunity to further understanding of the underlying theories and principles and to research a particular area of interest in more depth . 

That's why we offer students on TMI Recognised Masters Level courses the opportunity to compete for the Simon Curtis Postgraduate Prize.  

The new format is for students to submit a 5 minute narrated PowerPoint video presentation based on one of the following:

Final year consultancy project - Independent research project - Professional placement - Organisation of an event

The prize includes

  • The opportunity to engage in a one to one professional mentor meeting, with a senior TMI member and/or experienced destination practitioner;
  • A complimentary delegate place at the TMI Annual Convention - where they will hear the latest developments in destination management and be able to network with leading professionals in the sector;
  • If relevant, a small bursary will be available to cover reasonable UK travel costs to attend the event
  • One year’s FREE Associate membership of TMI, the voice of destination management
